Federally Funded Programs
Better Elementary Science Teaching Program (BEST)
In partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) College of Letters and Science (L&S), College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS), and the School of Education (SOE), Milwaukee Public School District (MPS) teachers will engage in a sustained and rigorous program to increase their science content knowledge and improve their ability to teach science effectively. Hanssen Consulting, LLC evaluates the program to uncover components that are working as well as areas that need improvement. Then we use the data to collaborate with the team to continuously improve the program.
Nonprofit Clients
Goodwill Industries of Southwest of Michigan
Goodwill Industries of Southwestern Michigan (GWI), the Kalamazoo County Family Independence Agency (FIA), and Housing Resources Incorporated (HRI) engaged Hanssen Consulting, LLC to evaluate the Making It Work (MIW) program. GWI uses this program to focus on bridging gaps in the traditional set of social services, which can inadvertently contribute to chronic unemployment and homelessness. The goals for this evaluation were to provide objective documentation of program results and provide feedback to program personnel for improvement purposes. We interviewed program members, researched similar programs in the area, and provided data that explained the impact of MIW.
Public Museum of Grand Rapids, Michigan
"Read and Connect," a comprehensive literacy enhancement program through the Public Museum of Grand Rapids, offers a unique Museum-based approach to experiential learning. Hanssen Consulting, LLC evaluated the program for the purposes of assessing the impact of the program, observing what occurs during program activities, gathering participant feedback, and providing external perspective on how the program may be improved for future offerings. Our research and analysis gave the museum an understanding of the program's strengths and weaknesses to guide them for future reading programs.
Health Department, Kent County
Hanssen Consulting, LLC served the Greater Grand Rapids Children's Environmental Health Initiative (GGRCEHI) in its effort to identify and map existing community resources that address indoor environmental health issues among children. We provided them with a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis of current "healthy homes" initiatives to help them prioritize their next steps.
