About Us

Hanssen Consulting, LLC was established in 2003 and has enjoyed steady growth since that time.  We concentrate on providing specialized Program Evaluation services to help organizations improve performance.


Our Principals

Carl Hanssen, Ph.D.

Carl Hanssen, Ph.D.Carl is the co-founder and driving force behind Hanssen Consulting.  He started his career in 1991 at The Evaluation Center at Western Michigan University where he managed large, multi-year projects for national foundations. In 1996, he accepted a position at The Andersen Worldwide Center for Professional Education in
St. Charles, IL where he quickly learned the in's and out's of evaluation in a consulting and corporate world. In 2003, Carl returned to Michigan and The Evaluation Center to complete his Doctorate in Evaluation, Measurement, and Research, which he completed in 2004.

During his career as an evaluator, Carl has participated in nearly 100 different projects in a variety of industries. This experience includes multi-year studies for private foundations, large federal government grant programs, a diverse group of survey research and data collection efforts for businesses, and evaluation of training programs, curricula, and business processes in corporate settings.

One of Carl's strengths as an evaluator is his ability to communicate complex ideas in understandable and usable language. As a facilitator, presenter, and instructor, Carl is adept at making sure his audience understands the task at hand. He is a regular presenter at professional conferences and has co-authored several articles on evaluation use, methods, and applications.


Amy Marks Hanssen

Amy Marks HanssenAmy is co-founder of Hanssen Consulting LLC.  She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Michigan University in 1993 and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and the Golden Key National Honor Society. Both are Top Honors Societies for overall academic performance. Her areas of expertise are instructional design for interactive multimedia learning, web-based products and instructor-led courses, and usability tests. Amy learned her trade at The Andersen Worldwide Center for Professional Education in St. Charles, IL where she started as a project assistant and advanced to Sr. Technology Consultant, before leaving corporate life to raise her children.

Amy's instructional design experience is concentrated in technology-based products - including Web-based and CD-ROM based multimedia training. In addition, she has experience in planning and facilitating usability tests for technology-based educational products. These tests usually entail extensive structured interviewing, observation, data management, analysis, and reporting. Her work in this area led to a 1998 publication in Multimedia and Internet Training Newsletter.

Amy is experienced in all phases of the project life cycle including project planning, developing conceptual and detail designs, usability testing, software documentation, and end-user support.


Consultants

Paul Lamphear
Senior Evaluation Consultant

Paul LamphearPaul joined the Hanssen Consulting team in January 2009. He has over 20 years of experience in Program Evaluation, Business Process Improvement, Impact Assessment, Net Project Value, and Strategic Alignment Analysis. Throughout his career he managed projects with budgets in excess of $15 million for both profit and nonprofit sectors supporting community, state, national, and international development organizations. To gain his wealth of experience, he consulted for USAID, Heifer International (Vietnam), Wisconsin Department of Energy, Goodwill Industries, Habitat for Humanity, Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services, EDS, National City Bank, BDO Seidman, and Pfizer, Inc. In addition, he authored and
co-authored articles on Evaluation Activities in Africa, Micro-enterprise Development, Opportunities and Challenges for the Use of the Development Assistance Committee Criteria, and provided direct support for organizations in the Pharmaceutical, Finance, Banking, and Construction industries.

Paul has an MBA in Finance, a Master's of Science in Management, and expects to complete his Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Evaluation through Western Michigan University's, School of Engineering in 2009. He is a certified Project Management Professional and holds certifications in Industrial Engineering, Lean Six Sigma, and in Validation of Good Manufacturing Processes by the Food and Drug Administration.

In 2005, Paul combined his work experience and passion for volunteerism to work with the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and Boston University's Exclusive Breastfeeding Study in Lusaka, Zambia. The project provided leadership and training for economic development programs supporting HIV-infected mothers.
